ABOUT US & OUR DOGS
SNUGINES
The affix SNUGINES is an anagram of GUINNESS (the black stuff of Ireland)
US
We had loved Newfoundlands for a long long time and finally in 1996 we got our first boy from Steven & Michelle McConnell -   Beaubear Grand Cru (Mac) he was Trevor's choice, I loved the cheeky boy of the litter and 1 week after getting Mac we had another addition to the family Beaubear Bonnezeaux (Duke) - the cheeky one.

On 9th September 2001 we lost Mac very suddenly, but at the time our friend Evelyn McVeigh was due a litter of puppies, we had our name down with Evelyn for a baby girl.
These puppies arrived on what would have been Mac's 5th birthday - 13th September 2001 - hence the name of our new baby girl "Angel" - Newveighbear Danae's Angel arrived along with 3 brothers.
Angel showed a few times but definitely not a show dog, although she did love the obedience and gained her Bronze and Silver Good Citizen Award.
Angel prefers to lie on the sofa at home or act the idiot ( like most newfies do)

Trevor was secretary of the Newfoundland Club of Ireland in 2007 and Vice-Chairperson in 2008, before resigning early in year .   Alison was secretary 2008 but at AGM declined position when nominated for Secretary.
We are both members of the UK Newfoundland Club and also of The Southern Newfoundland Club (UK). We are also members of Newtownards & District Canine Club & Northern Ireland Non-Sporting Breeds Club. In October 2009 Trevor was voted as Treasurer for Newtownards & District Canine Club and Alison was voted on as a committee member. Newtownards & District hold their championship show in February each year.

We love the breed and first and foremost they are our pets, they live in our home with us, usually stealing the sofas before us!!

Showing is 2nd to us, the joy we get out of these gentle giants is first and foremost.

Along with other newfoundland owners, who have their dogs first and foremost as pets, we have just set up a new Newfoundland club in Ireland called Emerald Isle Newfoundland Club, in this club we will be having fun with the dogs with Carting days, demonstration days and fun days, we will also be having breed seminars and are hoping for some health clinics.
Alison is the Secretary of the new club and Trevor is Treasurer, both of us are founder members of the Club.
